Political and ethnic divisions in the Western Balkans are results of unsolved regional conflicts. In addition, greater external impact has geopolitical implications for the European Union (EU) and its the political credibility, Austrian Defense Minister, Mr Mario Kunasek told in an interview with Pobjeda daily.

As for the crisis management and the international tasks of Austria, this country remains as one of the leaders in Europe when compared to its population.

“This especially refers to our engagement in the Western Balkans, which is of crucial importance for our joint security. Stability in the region means stability of Europe. Austria, he added, believes ethnic and political divisions in the region still exist.

“The EU and Austria as well, have a strategy for the Western Balkans, which is striving to back the political support for closer cooperation and coordination in salvaging the European perspective. However, security and stability of the region remain the topmost priority.”
