Porto Montenegro represents an investment and brand that brought considerable benefits to Tivat and Montenegro, such as new jobs, donations, increased arrivals as well as new investments, Siniša Kusovac, mayor of Tivat Municipality told in an interview for Pink M. He also emphasized that Porto and local self-government had wonderful cooperation.
“Porto Montenegro is the first most successful project in Montenegro which attracted other great strategic investors, such as Luštica Development, Katar Diar and Portonovi, which means that Tivat is becoming a widely-acknowledged nautical destination, whereas Porto Montenegro represents a 5-star property in terms of tourism offer. This all provides substantial benefits to the Municipality of Tivat,” noted Kusovac.
When asked about the debt forgiveness agreement between Porto Montenegro and local government, Kusovac said he wouldn’t say the municipality ‘forgave’ Porto the debt. “We didn’t forgive the debt Porto owed us. I’d say it’s a compensation for equipping the construction site where the strategic investor invested money. We should bear in mind they financed the whole project and that the Municipality of Tivat had some obligations as well. The Municipal Assembly approved their proposal, as well as the special state prosecutor, so I don’t see there’s a problem in this regard,” Kusovac was adamant, adding that the Agreement would be signed soon.
