Prelević: People in Montenegro pay the lowest electricity price

Electric Power Company of Montenegro should have offered several tariff models earlier. The offered models are legal but the question is whether they will achieve the desired objective and whether they will be attractive to buyers in Montenegro. The time will show, said the President of the Board of Directors of the Energy Regulatory Agency, Mr Branislav Prelević.

He said that experiences from other systems showed that buyers found it difficult to decide to change the basic package.

“From the point of view of the regulator, it is important that there’s choice, although we think that the Electric Power Company should have initiated the media campaign earlier to make sure that every buyer in Montenegro knows what every individual package means”, says Mr Prelević.

Mr Prelević also pointed out that people in Montenegro paid the lowest electricity price based on the economic principles.

“Electricity prices that are lower than in Montenegro are not based on economic principles. As a consequence, resources are being exploited irrationally, electric and energy companies are being destroyed and the overall damage is long-term”, explains Mr Prelević.

He said that he hadn’t heard that any professional had ever said that the electricity in Montenegro was the most expensive in Europe, considering the standard and the purchase power of buyers.
