After a more thorough analysis of the proposed amendments to the Law on Excise Taxes and based on the previous experience, it’s expected that the retail price of cigarettes is going to increase by 20% to 30% per pack from 1 July, depending on the category of a product, Pobjeda daily says.
On 10 February, the government adopted the proposal for the law on the amendments to the Law on Excise Taxes, which, among other things, envisages acceleration of excise taxes calendar for cigarettes from 1 July.
Meanwhile, the US Chamber of Commerce warned that the increase in excise taxes would inevitably lead to the additional drop in expenditure and the increase of grey economy, that is, narrowing of the tax scope and finally – budget revenues.
The Parliament Speaker, Danijela Djurovic, convened the extraordinary session of the parliament for 28 February to discuss the amendments to the Law on Excise Taxes.
