Prisoners in Dobrota are nobody’s care

Prijemno odjeljenje u Dobroti

The most recent incident that happened yesterday in the prison department of the Special hospital Dobrota, in which Radoš Lješković and another prisoner brutally beat up their roommate Milan Vidić clearly shows that treatment of prisoners in this institution is not appropriate solution. Apparently, nobody’s controlling them and the staff and other prisoners are endangered too.

Representatives of the Bureau for Execution of Criminal Sanctions said that prisoners serving their sentence in Dobrota do not fall within their domain of competence. Prisoners in Dobrota, however, walk freely, just like any other patient there.

Lješković is a very dangerous person who escaped twice from the institution. Prisoners are treated the same way patients are. Does somebody who is obviously a threat for the surroundings, regardless of his/her mental state, should be in Dobrota instead in prison?

Several cases of escape from this institution have been recorded in the last two years. The last one happened in July this year, when the prisoner Đorđije Pavićević managed to escape. The director of that institution, Dragan Čabarkapa, said that prisoners have right to go out for a walk.

Escapes and inappropriate behavior of prisoners should be an incentive enough for the competent authorities to engage and solve this serious problem and send such persons to prison, not in the hospital.
