Protests likely if the govt rejects proposals

In case the government doesn’t approve suggestions of the Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro and Federation of Trade Unions of Montenegro, regarding amendments to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance, these organizations would organize protests.

Secretary General of the Trade Union, Duško Zarubica, today at the press conference to launch a campaign called for dignified Third Age, as it is about a systemic and very important law.

“The public hearing has begun and we plan to have round tables in early September. As many are on their vacations, we have already sent requests for public hearings to be prolonged,”said Zarubica.

The USSCG Secretary General, Srdja Keković, stressed this law is of particular importance for all employees and citizens.  He also said the working group did not accept any suggestion or proposal of the trade unions. Unions have filed four key requirements to which the campaign will focus the most, according to Keković.

“One of the requirements is that 40 years of service remains as the only condition for old-age pension, and that does not extend to cumulative provided 65 years of life as it is proposed in the draft,” added Keković.

He said that the second request referred to reduction of the age limit for retirement at 65 years of age for both women and men.

Another option for retirement is 40 years of service without any conditions.

He said that at this moment in Montenegro about 10.500 pensioners receive a pension from one to 125 euro. About 30,000 of them receive from 125 to 200 euro, and more than 30.500 receive a pension ranging from 200 to 300 euro.
