Radulovic: Celebrating another country’s holidays not legal; Susic: It’s not law violation

Pljevlja

The announced celebration of the Day of Serbian Statehood in Pljevlja has caused divided opinions among the professional public. While on the one hand, lawyer Mitar Susic welcomes the celebration of what he says is an important day in the history of the Serbian people, lawyer Veselin Radulovic points out that celebrating another country’s holiday is not only illegal, but also inappropriate, the Gradski portal reports.

The celebration of Serbia’s statehood day in Pljevlja is another in a series of political performances that diverts attention from essential issues concerning citizens, Radulovic explains.

“In the spirit of what Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandic did when displaying tricolour flag, now we have something similar, perhaps an even more serious violation of the law. Montenegro has a law on public holidays and it is clearly defined which are celebrated in Montenegro”, Radulovic adds.

On the other hand, Susic claims that celebrating the statehood day of another country is not a violation of the law.

“The law defines which holidays are celebrated in Montenegro and it is not forbidden for anyone to celebrate the day of the French language, German cuisine, the statehood day of another country whose people live in Montenegro, so I believe that there is no bad intention or limitation in legal terms”, believes Susic.

Susic sees no reason why, as he says, a beautiful cause for celebration would affect divisions in society.

Radulovic does not expect a reaction from the institutions.
