Safet Kalač

Railway Infrastructure of Montenegro has obtained the “Brand Leader Award” recognition. This award is given on the basis of a set of criteria that entail professionalism, innovation and a high degree of market recognition. This year, around €15,7 million of investments are predicted.

The recognition was given at the sixth Transport and Logistics Business Conference of the South-East Europe and Danube region.

President of the Board of Directors of the Railway Infrastructure of Montenegro, Safet Kalač, explained that this award had been granted on the account of last year’s successful operation, as well as undertaken measures in the recovery of the existing situation and making projections for the forthcoming period.

“The management of our company found it crucial to improve the level of safety of the railway infrastructure, to reduce the number of employees by 10% and to keep track of the current investments”, said Mr Kalač.

Railway Infrastructure finished last year with a loss of € 758 thousand.

“In comparison to the earlier period, that’s a lot smaller amount”, said Kalač.

They are currently negotiating with the German Development bank about getting a loan in the amount of €22 million.

“We would use those funds for the remediation of 20 km of the railway line and the improvement of the safety level”, said Mr Kalač.

In the forthcoming period, management of this company will devote additional efforts in order to direct the funds from the budget of Montenegro and the EU towards the overall improvement of the railway infrastructure.
