Ryanair launches first Barcelona-Podgorica flight

Today at 1:30 pm, Ryanair plane landed at the Airport Podgorica for the very first time.

That means that, starting from today, Montenegro is connected to Iberian Peninsula via air traffic.

Routes will be operating once a week, until October and then the Ryanair planes will be flying to Barcelona twice a week- on Monday and on Thursday.

CdM has already written about the connection between Podgorica and Barcelona.

“As you probably know, interest in flights for Barcelona was huge. We always tend to meet the needs of our clients and tourist workers and we have been pushing for introducing this line. After a year of negotiations with several companies , we ensured the cooperation with Ryanair and we kept our promise”, said Mr Danilo Orlandić, Chief Executive of the Airports of Montenegro.

The first flight from Barcelona counted 153 passengers, whereas there were 183 passengers on the flight bound to Barcelona. This means that this has been an excellent move.

“Boeing 7378-800 was packed. I have to point out that the importance of this airline will be even bigger, considering the fact that we are going to be the only airport in the region with flights bound to Barcelona throughout the year”, said Mr Orlandić.

Director of the NTO, Mrs Željka Radak-Kukavičić thinks that opening this flight line is very important as lack of transport connection was the main barrier to tourist arrivals from the Spanish market.

“Better accessibility is one of the main factors which contributes to tourist arrivals from new markets”, said Mrs Radak-Kukavičić.

“Although the share of tourists from Spain in the total structure is very small, this flight line will increase the number of Spanish tourists and Montenegro will be better positioned”, says Mrs Radak-Kukavičić.
