SD official Nikola Zirojević: We won’t back postponement of parliamentary elections

Zirojević

Parliamentary elections will be held this year, just as the law prescribes, while the President of Montenegro will determine the concrete date, the Social Democrats, SD, stated.

The SD official, Mr Nikola Zirojević, told Dan daily they believed that the proposal for the Law on Election of MPs and Councilors represented a quality basis for the continuation of dialogue.

“On the other hand, it’s a bit hypocritical that someone now mentions additional talks when they obviously don’t want to take part in it. Just remember the Committee on the Reform of Election and Other Legislation and the fact that some of our colleagues from the opposition didn’t want to participate or participated in its work in a pretty strange way,“ Mr Zirojević said.

He also noted that, regardless of the situation, dialogue among institutions has no alternative if we really want to make improvements in the whole society.

“This is why I’d like to remind you of the continuous calls of the parliament’s speaker and president of the Social Democrats, urging all political parties to sit at the same table and discuss the solutions that would contribute to the creation of a favorable electoral environment.“
