Since the iThenticate software for detection of plagiarism came into use, around 151 works have been checked. Several master thesis and Phd dissertations were returned to their owners for correction.

This software is primarily used for the prevention of plagiarism. In case the software determines that there are elements of plagiarism, the dissertations will be returned for necessary corrections.

“The candidate is obliged to make necessary corrections within 30 days from the day the Commission delivered the suggestions. If the software determines that the person whose copyright is being checked failed to correct the parts in question, the commission prepares the opinion for the Senate”, say the representatives of the University of Montenegro.

The decision in the use of iThenticate software for detection of plagiarism was adopted in April this year and it stipulates rules, purposes and objectives of its use.

“As defined by the aforementioned decision, every master, Phd dissertation, as well as any other dissertation issued by the University of Montenegro, go through the originality check by the use of this software. Afterwards, they are submitted to the public insight in the Central University Library”.

If the evaluation of works indicates that there are elements of plagiarism, Center for studies and quality control of the University of Montenegro forms a commission composed of persons with academic or scientific titles. The commission will carry out the analysis and decide whether the results of the evaluation are relevant.

A specific dissertation is a plagiarism if there’s more than 30% of similarity between the master thesis/Phd dissertation of the candidate and works of other authors and if the authors weren’t referenced.
