Government’s decision to solve problems with Montenegro Airlines (MA) in public and transparent manner, by proposing the law, is a very responsible way to address this issue, said Prime Minister, Mr Duško Marković.
PM pointed out that shutting down the company would inflict substantial damage to Montenegro and its economy.
“We have made objective economic analysis of the consequences of MA liquidation. Montenegro would lose over 500.000 passengers. You can imagine what that would mean for Montenegro and its economy”, said Mr Marković.
He pointed out that investing and not spending was a way to go. Our country is mostly air destination. PM reminded that “this year, MA is expected to carry 680.000 tourists”.
“That is over €75 million of revenue and around €180 million of direct contribution to Montenegro’s economy and public finances. If MA shut down, we wouldn’t have such benefits”, said Marković and added that it was important that citizens understood this.
Shutting down MA would inflict substantial damage to Montenegro’s economy and the consequences would be far-reaching.
With the Proposal for the Law on investing in MA, debt issues would be settled and the company would enter investment and development phase.
“We take care of our pilots, engineers, technicians. We have invested so much in them and we must not allow ourselves to lose them. Montenegro and its economy needs those people”, said Mr Marković.
Prime Minister pointed out that this was economic and not recovery measure.
I believe we will find joint solution
Asked about the dissatisfaction of healthcare employees over the proposed rise in their salaries, PM said that he had talked with the trade unions and believed they would be able to come to a joint solution.
