The Ministry of Mining, Oil and Gas and the Government of Montenegro will continue to encourage responsible investments in the sector of mineral raw materials, at the same time fully protecting the natural and cultural assets. The Jagnjilo site near the town of Pljevlja has been considered particularly important, as there are significant amounts of marl, a key raw material for cement production, the Ministry of Mining, Oil and Gas, run by Minister Admir Šahmanović, has told the CdM portal.

According to them, this site represents the basis for the development of the project for construction of a cement manufacturing plant in Pljevlja.

“The construction of a cement manufacturing plant in that area, along with the removal of the existing landfill, would contribute to the preservation of the environment. We wish to remind of the fact that there was a cement manufacturing plant at this site from 1975 to 1988, much appreciated on the market at the time,” the ministry notes.

As they underline, by adopting the amendments to the 2024 annual concession award plan, the Government of Montenegro continues with the sustainable development strategy and the optimal usage of natural resources, while fully respecting ecological standards.
