In Paris, Frankfurt and London, many drivers, angry and pessimistic, paid €2 or more per liter of fuel yesterday. This is unprecedented and is a consequence of the war in Ukraine, which caused oil prices to skyrocket. Due to the war in Ukraine, it is almost certain that in Montenegro as well fuel prices will be significantly higher as of Tuesday. According to yesterday’s data from the stock exchange and the dollar-euro exchange rate, a liter of fuel in Montenegro could be more than 20 cents more expensive. Until then, Parliament cannot adopt a law until that date that would enable the Government to reduce fuel excise duties.

Currently in Montenegro, a liter of Eurosuper 98 costs €1.62, Eurosuper 95 €1.58, Eurodiesel €1.45 and heating oil €1.42.

The increase in fuel prices in Montenegro could be solved by Parliament’s adoption of the Law on Excise Duties, which would reduce excise duties on fuel. However, the adoption of such a law requires political will. Due to the current political events in the country, the acting deputy speaker of Parliament, Strahinja Bulajic, will not schedule a parliamentary session.
