Stanišić: We should all be in NATO, to never be at war again

Obrad Mišo Stanišić

Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina have the best bilateral relations in the region, MrObrad Mišo Stanišić, ambassador of Montenegro to Bosnia and Herzegovina, has said.

“We strongly support sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and we’ll do everything we can to share our European and Euro-Atlantic experience to make NATO and the EU membership much easier for our neighbor”, Mr Stanišić said.

“In my opinion, all countries formed after the break-up of Yugoslavia should become NATO members”, Mr Stanišić said.

“Montenegro didn’t become NATO member to wage wars with somebody but to advocate for peace in the region”, Mr Stanišić said.

What does not correspond to stable Montenegro- B&H relations is road infrastructure, said Mr Stanišić, reiterating that there’s a lot to be done in that context.

I am really glad that Mr Dodik and entire management of Republic Srpska confirmed that the works on the key Foča-Šćepan Polje road will begin in spring this year.

Ambassador hopes that construction and reconstruction of Nikšić-Čapljina railway will begin soon and that the agreement on the establishment of Sarajevo-Podgorica airline will be reached.

According to Mr Stanišić, development of economic relations between the two countries hinges on many factors.

“Montenegro-Bosnia economic relations are good, but they could be even better. The truth is our economic relations are determined by poor traffic connections”, said Mr Stanišić.

In the context of the current political and safety situation in Montenegro, Mr Stanišić pointed out that numerous “religious” gatherings were organized under the auspices of heads of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro.

“Political nationalistic structures in and out of Montenegro are behind those protests. Nationalistic ideas are alive again and the Serbian Orthodox Church has always been the most fervent advocate of such ideas. Now I am asking you, is there a country in the world where a religious community denies that country, its nation, language and church? Everybody must come to realization that Montenegro is civil, multi-ethnic and multi-confessional state. We’re NATO member and the next EU member. We are stability factor in the region”, Mr Stanišić said.

He added that Montenegro and its institutions were ready to preserve stability, peace and constitutional order and make sure that its destiny “is never discussed outside its borders”.
