After more than 6 years since the beginning of talks in the EU accession process, Montenegro has two more chapters to open, and one of them refers to the competition.
The Ministry of Economy said that certain preconditions related to the legislative and institutional framework need to be fulfilled before opining this Chapter.
“In order to open Chapter 8 we need to have the Agency for Protection of Competition fully operational with adequate resources that would enforce all the rules on state aid,” the Ministry of Economy told Pobjeda daily.
The first step for achieving this goal was setting up of the Agency’s Council as well as nominating the acting director of the Agency. “We are currently in the process of adopting the statute and the job scheme of the Agency, after which we plan to reassign a number of civil servants and state employees from the Ministry of Finance to the Agency. We expect speedy completion of tasks,” claimed the representatives of the Ministry.
They couldn’t or simply didn’t want to forecast potential dates for opening of the Chapter 8, having in mind that the European Union (EU) is the one that estimates the country’s readiness for opening of this Chapter.
