“Although the government is making efforts to improve the situation in the healthcare system, the charity donations are something that helps a lot. This is not the first time your family donates to the Institute for Childhood Diseases and your donations mean a lot,” Kovacevic said.

She hopes that many others will follow this example

“I will say once more – I am very grateful that you have allocated funds for this donation,” Kovacevic said.

Symbolic significance

Stathis said that it was important for him to help doctors and hospital staff who take care about children.

“It is very important to help the local community and this is not the first time that we do that. But this time, the donation has a symbolic significance because I brought my family with me. I consider it very important to show how important it is to help people in need,” Stathis said.

He hopes other business people will follow the example.

“This is not the last time to help you. I want you to know that we and our associates will continue to support you,” Stathis said.

After his introductory address, Stathis and his family visited the institute, where new modern beds were placed. The Stathis family presented children in the hospital unit with gifts.

CdM earlier reported about conditions at the clinic

The Stathis’s donation has come after CdM reported about the condition of the beds in the clinic.

New beds

The controversy began when one of the mothers sent photos of the room where she and her child were hospitalised to CdM. Dirty, worn out mattresses and broken beds could be seen at the photos.

Then, CdM visited every room of the Children’s Hospital and inspected each mattress and bathroom there. There was only one dirty mattress and broken bed in the unit. The clinic director Sonja Milasinovic, said then that the furniture in the unit was worn out, but that at least the premises were clean.

After Stathis’s donation, all the beds in the Children’s Clinic will be new and clean so that the children will stay in much better conditions.
