Podgorica mayor Slavoljub Stijepovic is convinced Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) will score a landslide victory in the forthcoming local elections. He states DPS will “timely” nominate its Podgorica mayoral candidate. He categorically rejected speculations on divisions within Podgorica DPS.
“There are no divisions within DPS. We haven’t had any split since 1997 and we act as a union”, Stijepovic said appearing on the Živa istina socio-political interview show.

In few months’ time, we will mark 100 years since establishing the Great National Assembly of the Serb people in Montenegro, or the so-called “Podgorica Assembly”. Asked whether the capital should take a position over the matter, Stijepovic answered positively, stating that we should have it in mind throughout the whole year. “As a Montenegrin, Podgorica resident and mayor, I feel overwhelmed with bitterness whenever somebody mentions the Podgorica Assembly. It reminds me of times when we lost our state, church and when members of famous dynasty Petrovic-Njegos were denounced as traitors”, said Stijepovic.
He stressed the need for organizing meetings and gatherings aiming to explain to the public what exactly happened in 1918.
