Strasbourg Court rejects Belgrade lawyers’ request referring to religious freedom law

Savjet Evrope

The European Court of Human Rights has rejected a request of the Radić Law Office from Belgrade asking a ban on the implementation of the religious freedom law in Montenegro until the Constitutional Court makes the decision on the constitutionality of the Law or until the conclusion of an agreement between the Serbian Orthodox Church and the State of Montenegro, the Government of Montenegro said.

“The Strasbourg Court rejected such a request, which was notified to the Office of the Representative of Montenegro before the European Court of Human Rights,” the Government emphasized.

They also recalled that Montenegro won a case before the European Court of Human Rights in 2020, following a suit filed by the SPC, which required the restitution of church property in Montenegro.
