Successful tourism season in Montenegrin national parks

A total of 436.119 visitors visited national parks of Montenegro in the first eight months of this year, and that’s by 31% more than in than in the same period last year.

“Foreign and domestic tourists are becoming more and more interested in protected natural spaces in our country. Great results achieved so far have contributed to the overall promotion of Montenegro not only as tourist destination, but also as country with incredible natural values in the system of national parks”, said director of the enterprise managing national resources, Mr Elvir Klica.

As Mr Klica pointed out, all national parks have recorded increase in the number of visits. Until 1 September, 103.914 visitors came to Skadar Lake and enjoyed its beauties.

“We expect great number of visits in September and October too. The weather will be ideal for cruising, hiking, visiting cultural and historical sites, bird watching or sport and recreational fishing”, said Mr Klica.

Cultural heritage in Durmitor NP, its mountain top and glacier lakes, Tara rafting, climbing and other activities have attracted more than 200.000 visitors.

“Hiking, mountaineering and staying in a rainforest, visiting pastures and footpaths, attractive tourist trains in Biogradska gora were just perfect choices for rest and recreation. From the beginning of year until 1 September, around 52.454 tourists visited Biogradska gora NP. National parks Lovćen and Prokletije also saw an increase in the number of visitors (by around 30%). Such huge steps forward are result of continuous work and cooperation with key subjects in Montenegro. We expect even better results by the end of season”, pointed out Mr Klica.
