Ten to Eight – Arresting St. Petar Cetinjski

You are reading a daily contextual review of the news that marked the previous weekend.

By Ljubomir Filipovic, CdM observer

The police managed to “surpass” themselves and, after a record seizure of cocaine, cast a shadow over their success with another seizure – this time a T-shirt with the image of St. Petar Cetinjski (St. Peter of Cetinje) and the coat-of-arms of the Montenegrin Orthodox Church. This news about the arrest of the owner of the Cetinje company who ordered the T-shirts, resonated on the Internet. The first to react was the activist and official of the 21. Maj Civic Initiative Aleksandar Sasa Zekovic, to whom this time I have to pay special recognition for the constant guarding of human rights violations by institutions. As he did before, so he continues to do now. With the pressure exerted by others – SD, Liberal Party, SDP, but above all Zekovic, the police released the owner of the Cetinje company and printing workers, and the release of the seized vehicle and goods was announced for today. The Police Directorate spoke out late last night and stated that they had not detained anyone.

This kind of pressure hasn’t been registered. Thousands of T-shirts with the image of Ratko Mladic or Radovan Karadzic, which were sold or are still being sold on the coast, tens of thousands of printed tricolor flags and the like, have never been the subject of a seizure by the Police Directorate. What happened, so people have to suffer repression of this kind, is clear to everyone – URA brought extremists to power and opened Pandora’s box, as the leader of that party recently boasted. These extremists now see a threat in everything Montenegrin and would probably, if they could, criminalize everything Montenegrin.

Record cocaine seizure without arrested perpetrators

In the wee hours of the night from Thursday to Friday, the Montenegrin police achieved a historic success – 1,400 kg of cocaine were seized. URA started to spread the story through bots that Dritan “the Hand of Justice” Abazovic did it all with his bare hands, although it is suspected that he knew nothing about the action. After waking up a little later after spending time at Sea Dance, he also tweeted about the event. The media claim that the drugs belong to the Skaljari clan, which apparently became more active after the change of government in Montenegro. We do not know anything about who sent the narcotics and who they were intended to, and the arrested owners of the company that imported and stored bananas containing cocaine were released pending trial. The ruling party official Nebojsa Medojevic again scored with the criticism of the new authorities’ “kiss and let go” policy.

Erdogan’s visit

The Turkish President’s visit to Montenegro was short and efficient. DPM Abazovic waited for Erdogan, who, judging by the photos, did not greet him with enthusiasm, after which he escorted him to President Djukanovic in Cetinje, where Abazovic joked with the president and the president’s advisers in a relaxed atmosphere, showing that he was indifferent to whistles by Cetinje residents. After Djukanovic said in his address after the meeting with Erdogan that he would be at the protest against the enthronement if it is not given up, he was greeted by the resident of Cetinje. The Turkish President also met with the Prime Minister, Parliament Speaker and representatives of the Bosniak Party, before his unplanned shortening of stay in our country.

Enthronement and consequences

After President Djukanovic said he would be at the protest on Sunday, a wave of hysteria by officials of the ruling coalition followed. Krivokapic, Mandic and Olivera Injac, who by the way is employed at the University Donja Gorica (UDG), where Djukanovic is a co-owner, condemned the President’s statement, while they were silent when government officials supported and invited people to come to the enthronement. We remind you that all government officials support the enthronement, including Abazovic, despite the opposite position of his party. An incredible campaign of intimidation on social networks, spreading fake news that Thompson is a guest at the protest, all in order to prove the protest as extremist, falls into the water when more and more Serbian leaders like Nenad Canak prove with their presence that there is nothing extremist or anti-Serb in the protest. On the occasion of growing and louder reactions, and after their propaganda about extremism fell into the water, the Serbian Metropolitan Joanikije II also spoke out, directly threatening to curse those who oppose his enthronement.

MP Jelusic’s nepotism

Minister Tamara Srzentic’s ministry is slowly becoming a service of URA, and criticism that its personnel decisions are managed by Dritan Abazovic, makes more and more sense. Now, the daughter-in-law of Bozena Jelusic has been chosen as one of her closest associates, and it is said that members of the immediate and wider family of Jelusic and the Vukotic family have also found their way into the state administration. SD official Nikola Zirojevic warned on Twitter that the position of the undisputed champion of nepotism, Branko Radulovic, was seriously endangered. After witnessing the practices of nepotism and party-affiliated employment of URA and MP Jelusic at the local level in Budva for five years now, I guess it was time for the rest of Montenegro to be directly convinced of that. Due to this practice, the former Minister of Public Administration from Budva, Suzana Pribilovic, also spoke out.

That’s it for today. Enjoy the rest of the day.
