Ten to Eight – Bečić’s “Recognition of Kosovo”

You are reading a daily contextual review of the news that marked the previous weekend.

By Ljubomir Filipović, CdM observer

Parliament Speaker and Democrats leader Aleksa Bečić sent a letter of congratulations to Kosovo’s newly elected president. After the Kosovo parliament announced it on the internet, there was a hysteria in the media in Serbia, in which Mr Bečić literally declared himself a traitor. The bots and trolls of the Democratic Front started a regular, boring repertoire of the name and shame campaign on the internet, which resulted in some members of the Democrats publicly burning their membership cards. The premises of the Democrats in Nikšić are covered with canvases that read “Grandpa is watching you” and the like.

CdM attack

In addition to all this, the Democrats decided to balance by attacking CdM, which carried yesterday’s trend from social networks in which users shared Mr Aleksa Bečić‘s former statement that tricolors would be flown in Podgorica after the elections in which he was then the candidate for Podgorica mayor.

This is another in a series of attacks on CdM, which has been threatened by the Deputy PM for a long time, and who would like to shut us down. You can read the answer to the Democrats by Boris Darmanović, the editor-in-chief of CdM, here.

Election engineering

URA has played a little with its partners in the repeated elections at one polling station in Nikšić. In order to win the second seat in the local parliament, which was 32 votes short, URA’s partners from the DF, the party of Daka Davidović and the Democrats “poured” almost all their votes (except one from the DF), so URA’s support grew from 0 to 28 votes.

In addition to these tactical moments, the new Government plans to play with the law on citizenship, but also residence and stays, preventing our people who work abroad from voting, but wants to enable the same thing to Serbian citizens living in Montenegro. This is also an ethnically colored initiative, because a great deal of our people who work abroad, and who they want to exclude, are Bosniaks, and those who they want to include are mostly Serbs, people who fled to Montenegro during the 1990s wars.

The mayor of Podgorica Ivan Vuković spoke about the draft law on amendments to the Law on Registers of Residence and Stay. “Dear Minister Sekulović, there is no justification for betraying national and state interests. I hope you are aware of that”, Mr Vuković tweeted.

Dritan Abazović’s watch

The story of Mr Dritan Abazović‘s watches has been circulating on the internet for some time now, and his hobby and passion for large watches is being compared to that of the President of Montenegro. However, although Mr Abazović did not reach those figures and models, Belgrade YouTuber Strahinja Đorić, who talks about watches and who has previously done shows about watches of President Đukanović and other politicians, recognized the Frank Miller model in Mr Abazović‘s photo, whose price is €17,000. After we, like other media, shared this video and asked a question, another attack came to us URA, in which Mr Abazović silently defends himself by saying that he received the watch “from his brother, a successful doctor, while he was a student” and that the watch itself does not cost more than €100 – €200. He did not answer whether the watch was a copy or the original, but the story of his brother, a successful doctor, is illogical, because both were students at the same time.

Inappropriate Jakov Milatović’s chart

Minister Milatović, who is rolling his expertise in the mud with every political statement, yesterday, wanting to shift the responsibility for the catastrophic state of health to the DPS, compared the number of infected people on Twitter before and after the appointment of the new Government. The reactions of people were fierce. Many drew his attention to the fact that the pandemic gained the biggest momentum after the funeral of Metropolitan Amfilohije, that the formation of the Government was awaited due to their bargaining, etc., but also the fact that 75% of deaths occurred during the new Government’s term. Epidemiologist Milko Joksimović reacted to Mr Milatović‘s heartless play with statistics and responded on Twitter.

Give man power…

MANS recalled that MPs of the then opposition claimed in Parliament in 2016 that they would terminate the contract on oil and gas exploration when they come to power. In this video, you can see Messrs. Abazović, Konatar, Bojanić and their other colleagues casually promising what they are now avoiding to do.

“The opening of One&Only Portonovi, one of the most exclusive hotels in Europe, will permanently change the tourist offer and be a significant step in branding Boka Bay and our Montenegro”, tweeted yesterday Deputy PM and URA leader Dritan Abazović. However, only several months ago, URA said the project was suspicious and owned by the daughter of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

That’s it for today. See you tomorrow at the same time in the same place.
