Ten to Eight – New Govt or elections

You are reading a daily contextual review of the news that marked the previous day.

By Ljubomir Filipović, CdM observer

New Government or elections – This was announced by the DF last night, but let’s start in order. First, according to Pobjeda, a meeting of the parliamentary majority was supposed to be held in the Government building at the invitation of PM Zdravko Krivokapic, but only Dritan Abazovic responded to the meeting. Parliament Speaker was justifiably absent, the others refused to come. For now, the DF and Miodrag Lekic said that for them, the Prime Minister was excluded from any future combination for the first man of the executive branch of Government, and yesterday DF MP Jovan Vucurovic said in a statement for Dan that the very concept of expert Government was outdated. After the Democrats said yesterday that they did not agree to change the Prime Minister, and that the only thing they were ready to support was the reshuffle of the government, while a guest on Vijesti TV, this party’s leader Aleksa Becic was more precise and said that politicians could also enter the Government, but only with the consent of the Prime Minister. After the meeting of the parliamentary majority was held on the initiative of the SNP and Miodrag Lekic, they concluded that they did not agree and the next meeting is scheduled for next week. The DF said explicitly after the meeting that this Government should “step down” and that a new government should be formed.

Prime Minister’s spread of panic

Yesterday, during the PMQs, the Prime Minister presented information that the Cetinje Monastery was attacked by a “small group of people” who tried to “break into it”. As we know how sensitive this question is, I asked around what it was about. I found a video clip with Cetinje residents showing activist Hajdana Huter entering the monastery and handing over a document/request regarding the works on the building. After experiencing inconveniences there, Huter reported everything to the police. The Prime Minister should not spread misinformation, especially not so flammable. If there was any other event that the public was not informed about, he should have been more specific.

Diplomacy crisis

It was painful to watch the head of Montenegrin diplomacy Djordje Radulovic trying to justify his scandalous solutions for some selections of ambassadors in Parliament yesterday, and saying that the President of Montenegro was to blame for the bad reputation of diplomacy. The former government also had failures, and our diplomacy was far from the best, but they did not send Chetniks to Sarajevo, for example. Foreign policy adviser at the President’s cabinet Tamara Brajovic addressed the public, saying that the minister wanted to avoid consultations, and that no one could be an ambassador until he was appointed by the President.

ToMontenegro’s double zero

At the cabinet meeting, the Government adopted the information on the purchase of Embraer aircraft for the needs of the ToMontenegro company. At the same time, the first commercial flight of the Air Montenegro brand failed to animate any passengers to join the flight to Geneva, or the one from it. But it is important that the director picked up his bonus of €30,000 for the first flight, if MP Nebojsa Medojevic is to be believed.

Malagurski problem

Unlike Budva, where the screening was held, and where the mayor and the dismissed minister Leposavic were present, as well as Bozena Jelusic, who was initially not allowed to sit in the front row, in Kotor, the mayor Vladimir Jokic decided that, for security reasons, projection would not be held. The coalition around the local DF immediately accused him of obeying the directive of the Podgorica headquarters.

Stop for Tatjana Becanovic

URA’s officials and sympathizers aggressively took over the management of the University. However, membership in administrative bodies does not guarantee that they can advance in the “service” by circumventing the rules. Academic titles are earned by measurable work, and here political connections seem to fail. The Senate of the University of Montenegro did not elect Tatjana Djurisic-Becanovic as a full professor, but she was re-elected as an associate professor, Pobjeda has learnt. According to Pobjeda, no one voted to be elected to a higher title. Djurisic-Becanovic ran for election to the academic title in the field of Montenegrin studies – Montenegrin and South Slavic literature, at the Faculty of Philology, University of Montenegro.

Exhibition in Belgrade

In Belgrade, at the Republic Square, on 21 June, the event called That’s What Our Ancestors Were Saying was opened. It is accompanied by an exhibition with billboards showing photos and statements of people who, as the organizers say, “marked our history”.

The organizer is the Serbian National Council, which is financed from the Montenegrin budget. People are literally going there at the expense of the state to talk about how Montenegrins are a fictional nation, and all that in partnership with the City of Belgrade.

That’s it for today and for this week. See you again on Monday.
