Ten to Eight – School & Coronavirus

You are reading a daily contextual review of the news that marked the previous weekend.

By Ljubomir Filipovic, CdM observer

As it always happens when it comes to Dritan Abazovic, from his message to relax because there are no major problems with the pandemic and that the number of the infected is so big because the number of tests is large, to yesterday’s statement by Minister Jelena Borovinic Bojovic who admitted that the situation is “complicated“, not much time has passed. Although the numbers show that vaccination is getting more successful, people have less and less trust in health institutions, surveys show. It seems to me that no one wants to communicate with the public in a way that provokes people’s desire for cooperation. The catastrophic situation we are in is a product of the incompetence and irresponsibility of this government, as well as the irresponsibility of citizens towards their own and public health. We have to take care and we have to get vaccinated.

After the measures announced by Bratic’s ministry for the beginning of the school year, many came forward to criticize them, among them Adnan Cirgic, who commented on the absurdity of the measures for CdM. After his reaction, but also many others, Minister of Health herself criticized her colleague, Minister Bratic.

Not in Cetinje, we kindly ask you

The most responsible move of protest organizers against the enthronement of the Serbian metropolitan in Cetinje is the organization of a protest on Sunday, 22 August, at noon. They did their part of the job and gave the Church of Serbia a chance to think, and to make one selfless move that will not cost it much, but will make a lasting contribution to peace in Montenegro. Insisting on the enthronement in Cetinje, which is accompanied by a campaign of nationalist savagery on social networks, videos in which slaughter is threatened, stories of terrorist attacks and the like, only complicates the situation and provokes a reaction.

The mayor of Cetinje sent a letter to the embassies in which he called on the representatives of the diplomatic corps to, in line with their competencies, urge to calm tensions and respect the will of part of the Montenegrin public not to organise the enthronement of Metropolitan Joanikije in Cetinje, but to choose another place in Montenegro.

People who will gather at the protests should keep in mind that the goal of the Church of Serbia and the government is to provoke a violent reaction in order to present the protest as a nationalist savage gathering that aims to prevent people from exercising their human rights. Therefore, if someone has the impression that violence can solve anything, let him think well, because by doing so he is doing a great service to those who do not think wish Montenegro well.

Preparations for the protest seem to be going well and the city appeared in posters yesterday. Nikola Belada, a lawyer and a prominent Cetinje resident, writes in his column why he is protesting.

Tensions moved from Cetinje to Danilovgrad

After lighting the banner Danilovgrad Supports Cetinje three times, residents of Danilovgrad put it for the fourth time. Tensions in the city have increased, and people who light banners should be warned by those who gather them that raising tensions cannot bring good to anyone. Aleksandar Sasa Zekovic called on the local representatives of the Church of Serbia in Danilovgrad to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Those who hung the banner were on duty next to it last night due to the announcement that it would be set on fire during the night.

Belivuk’s group killed in Montenegro as well

The Special Prosecutor’s Office filed criminal charges against Veljko Belivuk, Mirko Miljkovic, J.N. and Z.R. on suspicion that they killed Damir Hodzic and his brother-in-law Adis Spahic on 14 October last year in Danilovgrad, the Special State Prosecutor’s Office said. Parliament Speaker Aleksa Becic criticized the former police official Zoran Lazovic, recalling that Lazovic, as he said, “assured that they (Belivuk and his associates) are not enemies of Montenegro, that inspectors of the sector he led keep an eye on them for 24 hours and will prevent them in any attempt to carry out criminal activities”.

Interrogation of Niksic mayor

The mayor of Niksic Marko Kovacevic was questioned yesterday at the High State Prosecutor’s Office, after the criminal complaint was filed by the Democratic Party of Socialists, because of the statement in which he denied the genocide in Srebrenica.

Air Serbia & Montenegro

Air Serbia completely defeated Air Montenegro in terms of flights from Montenegro to Belgrade. Last week, Air Serbia had 21 flights from Podgorica and 55 flights from Tivat, i.e. 76 weekly flights to Belgrade. That is almost 11 daily flights, stated analyst Alen Scuric; “At the same time, Air Montenegro had 9 flights from Podgorica and 17 flights from Tivat to Belgrade, i.e. 26 weekly flights, which is not even 4 a day”.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Stop for refugees from Afghanistan

Montenegro will not accept refugees from Afghanistan, as it was arbitrarily stated in some media, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro said yesterday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs points out that by joining the statement of about 100 countries published by the State Department, Montenegro has not committed itself to temporarily accept the residents of Afghanistan who helped the allied forces, as such an obligation is not foreseen by this statement.

That’s it for today. We wish you a pleasant rest of the day.
