Ten to Eight – The fall of the Bastille

You are reading a daily contextual review of the news that marked the previous weekend.

By Ljubomir Filipovic, CdM observer

After a long fight through the media and not without controversy, Boris Raonic, a longtime leader of civil society in Montenegro, was elected General Director of RTCG. Raonic’s election was accompanied by complaints from other civil activists who have been “at war” with him for years. The loudest opponent of Raonic’s election was Goran Djurovic, the husband of URA’s new political director, Ana Novakovic Djurovic. That is why it is hypocritical that Dritan Abazovic sent the first congratulations with his inherent sensationalism containing an inappropriate and indecent remark about the “Fall of the Bastille”, to whom Raonic thanked for the trust.

In addition to Abazovic and Democratic Front representatives, Raonic was also congratulated by the leaders of the minority parties – Ibrahimovic, Djeljosaj, Cungu, as well as the leader of the opposition Liberal Party, Andrija Popovic. Raonic was not congratulated by other opposition parties, but they did not criticize his election, either. It is interesting that the Democrats behaved in the same way.

Critics oppose Raonic’s election mostly because of the manner in which he was elected, and Mr Djurovic’s main argument was the connection between the members of the RTCG Council and the Civic Alliance, headed by Raonic. Those familiar with Djurovic’s behavior see a kind of revenge for previous conflicts with the Civic Alliance, when GA and MANS criticized the alleged abuses and registration of a large number of phantom NGOs by Djurovic and people close to him.

Great opposition to Raonic’s election could be found on social networks, where mostly opposition-minded Twitter users reacted negatively. Namely, he was criticized for his closeness to the ruling structures, but also for his views on Krsto Popovic, for example.

Raonic promised the professionalization of RTCG and impartiality and professionalism of work. He said that he would not be an editor, but a manager of the national broadcaster.

URA panicking

We read last week that an explosive device was found in the yard of the house of Ministry of the Interior’s official Rade Milosevic. A statement immediately followed from his party, stating that the mafia would not frighten them with such attacks. It turned out that an old hand grenade from World War II was found during the cleaning of the yard of the Milosevic family house. This is not the first time that URA’s officials have shouted “Wolf!”, Specifically Milosevic himself, who falsely reported an attack on him before the elections in Niksic, until a video of the incident appeared, which denied him. If URA members don’t get serious, no one will believe them in case they really find themselves in trouble.

Fake diplomat

It is not Simijanovic this time, but the former ambassador of Serbia to Montenegro, Vladimir Bozovic, who continues to present himself as an ambassador, even though he has been denied hospitality in Montenegro. What’s worse, he does this from Montenegro, where he rests all summer and from here, he advertises himself as an ambassador in the Serbian media. For this reason, 21. Maj Civic Initiative has filed a criminal complaint against Bozovic for false representation.

Does the health system collapse await us?

Every day we hear discouraging news about the situation with the pandemic. The number of cases has started to grow seriously, with European countries urging their citizens to return from Montenegro before 15 August. Information about the chaotic situation in the health centers is coming from tourist places like Budva, while the Ministry is only reacting to deny political announcements and criticism of parties like the one from the DPS.

Doing what Chetniks do

A “traditional people’s assembly” was held in Gornji Zaostr near Berane, and the central event, as previously announced by the organizers, was a memorial service for “innocent victims and members of the Yugoslav royal army in the homeland”. The famous local priest Cicmil also invited people to the event.

While the church supports such events, the church is supported by the PM, who goes to the market wearing a shirt with the image of a priest who celebrated the Chetniks, after which he goes to Herzegovina to attend the promotion of a book celebrating church figures with strong nationalist views.

Background of Podgorica fire

A video of a fire in Podgorica appeared over the weekend, after which the arsonist was identified and arrested. It is suspected that the arson was ordered.

Regardless of this, the behavior of the Ministry of Defense of Montenegro is interesting, as there are no free units for Podgorica, while in the cities where it exercises power, as in Nikšsic, Minister Injac does not save on military aid. For me, this is proof of the incomprehensible passion of Minister Injac, from whose Ministry we only hear about scandals.
