The 4-cm cube with wisps of dyed and virgin hair will be sent into space in NASA’s scientific balloon. The balloon will launch in the end of summer and it’s about the Cubs in Space program developed by NASA. Pupils of the ’30 September’ Gymnasium in Rožaje, Zahir Šabotić, Almira Ljajić, Aiša Kalač, Almin Nurković and Idria Adrović are taking part in this program along with their mentor, professor Mirsada Šabotić, reported Pobjeda, a daily.

The authors expect confirmation of hypothesis that wisps of hair would change differently in space. The Cubes in Space program found this idea interesting and Ms Šabotić emphasized the idea came by accident. “We had our class and were discussing a short story ‘A red-haired girl’ written by Meša Selimović and then my pupils figured out the experiment was linked with hair so they decided to do it and send the cube into space. Our goal is to indicate to the adverse effects of hair dyeing in terms of radiation and UV rays.”

According to her, the pupils took this task seriously and spent a lot of time for research which demanded extensive knowledge. She’s proud of her pupils and believes their success is important for whole Montenegro as it’s about the experiment exceeding the Earth’s boundaries.

Her team from Rožaje will be able to watch their cube during the space mission.

The Cubes in Space program engages students (ages 11-18) and is implemented in cooperation with the International Space Station, NASA.
