Turkish Ambassador: “Spring of peace” is fighting against terrorists, not Kurds

Turkish operation in Syria called “Spring of peace”  is aimed at eliminating “terror corridor” along the southern border of Turkey.  The objective is to protect Turkish integrity, but also the integrity of Syria. This operation is not against Kurds. Turkey isn’t their enemy, Turkish and Kurds have been living as one family for thousands of years, says the Ambassador of Turkey to Montenegro, Ms Songul Ozan.

Turkish military forces launched yesterday an operation called “Spring of peace” in order to eliminate members of PKK/YPG and ISIL terrorist organization.

“This is a mission against terrorism. In order to protect Turkish and Syrian integrity, we are launching this operation. We want to prevent formation of a terror corridor. We decided to say ”Enough”! Thousands of our people have been killed. This terrorist organization is trying to deceive public. They are not fighting for Kurds. They killed Kurds, even the babies. We are not enemies of Kurds, we are one family. This is fight against terrorism”, said Ms Ozan in the interview for CdM.

She explained that Turkey had been fighting against PKK organization since 1984.

“That organization killed a great number of our people. Since 2011, when the war in Syria broke out, the stability has been brought into question. PKK has established its branches in the north of Syria. This isn’t a threat for Turkey only, bit for Syria and that part of the world. This is our survival”, said Ms Ozan.

She says that this is fight against terrorism and there is no such thing as a good or a bad terrorist.

“They are everybody’s enemy. A terrorist has no religion or a nation. We want peace to rule in Syria, we want to preserve the integrity of Syria, we want rule of law. We have got 4 million refugees, we have spent €40 billion for that purpose. Montenegro opened its door for the refugees during wartime in former Yugoslavia, so Montenegro can understand. Goal is to bring this mission in Syria to an end successfully”, explained Ms Ozan.

Turkey wants everybody to know what’s going on, she points out.

“Fight against terrorism is very important. Turkey is an important stability factor in the world. Russia is our important partner, the USA is our strategic partner. This mission will be beneficial for all of us. We are combating terrorist organizations in order to protect civilians”, said Mz Ozan.

U.S. President, Donald Trump, said that Turkish attack on Syria was a bad idea. He called on Ankara to protect military minorities. Russian president, Mr Vladimir Putin, tolčd Turkish president to “think carefully” before he decides to attack north of Syria.

Head of EU diplomacy, Ms Federica Mogherini called on Turkey to stop military operation.
