Ulcinj tourism officials hope for a 2020 tourism season despite Covid-19

Tourism officials and experts all agree that the town of Ulcinj has to prepare for the forthcoming tourism season despite the coronavirus pandemic, as it might expect to become an attractive destination for tourists from the region after lifting lockdown measures.

Head of the Ulcinj Tourism Organization, Mr Fatmir Đeka, is rather optimistic when it comes to the summer tourism season.

“I’m convinced that tourists will come throughout July and August. Ulcinj residents are hard-working and will prepare for the season quickly. In case borders are open, we are easily accessible to tourists from the region who made up over 70% of all arrivals last year. In addition, 12 km long Velika plaza [Long Beach] can ensure social distance in case of need,” Mr Đeka said.

According to him, tourism represents the most important industry for Ulcinj, as over two thirds of revenues are generated through it.

Ulcinj will face catastrophic outcomes if tourism revenues this summer hit low due to Covid-19, but they still believe this won’t happen, according to him.

Mr Petar Delić of the company ‘Deli Tours’, which manages Safari beach in Ulcinj, says they will prepare everything needed in order to welcome guests.

“Everything is uncertain for now. As for the forthcoming summer season, everything depends on the people – whether they will be ready to come on a holiday and whether the borders will reopen.”
