Undersea cable becomes fully operational on Friday

Undersea cable connecting Montenegro and Ital will officially become operational on Friday, 15 November.

Representatives of Terna company said that Italian president, Mr Sergio Mattarella, and Montenegro’s president, Mr Milo Đukanović, will deliver addresses in the event.

The infrastructure represents the first “energy bridge” between the EU and the Balkans. It promotes integration of energy markets, guaranteeing high standards of safety, efficiency and sustainability of Montenegrin, Italian and European energy system.

Agreement on the connection between Italy and Montenegro was signed in November 2010. Total value of the project amounts to over €1 billion.

The cable between Pescara and Jaz promontory is 455 km long.

Length of the undersea part amounts to 433 km.
