Construction of a cable car to the fortress San Giovanni, above Kotor, should be rejected and that way, any negative impact on the exceptional, universal values Kotor has, should be avoided. This is the viewpoint of the UN Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO).
This conclusion has been drawn on the basis of the technical analysis of the assessment of the previous and future impacts inside the natural and cultural and historical area of Kotor (HIA – Heritage Impact Assessment), conducted by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
The efforts put in the laws, planning and management have been assessed positively but these measures can’t replace legal and planning mechanisms which refer to the entire protected area.
