Voucher or money – a matter of agreement with a guest

Air travel has been completely grounded due to Covid-19 as of 1 March, and passengers who booked their travels during that period of time will get vouchers and will be able to use them until the end of the year. Tourism expert and dean of the Faculty of Business and Tourism in Budva, Mr Rade Ratković, told Pobjeda daily that a voucher represents a ‘paying’ instrument in the area of tourism for decades.

“I think it’s the right thing to offer vouchers to tourists who have already paid a part of the money in advance and who were not able to use them during the pandemic, so that they can travel some other time throughout the year. Of course, a guest has to agree on it in case the agreement did not stipulate such a possibility. It’s a recommendation for all tourist agencies – instead of returning the money, they can offer vouchers,“ said Mr Ratković, adding that having in mind this specific circumstance, the agencies can offer a guest other amenities as well.

Amendments to the Law on Tourism and Hospitality, currently in the parliamentary procedure, suggest that if a passenger doesn’t use a voucher by the end of next year, he/she will have the right to terminate the contract with the agency, and in that case, the agency is obliged to return the money within 2 weeks from the day of the termination of the contract.

According to him, there should be no negative reactions.
