Vučić: Somebody is trying to create a new church in Montenegro

Although he said he didn’t want to meddle in Montenegro’s internal affairs, Serbia’s president, Mr Aleksandar Vučić, did exactly that in today’s press conference following the meeting with the Serbian Patriarch Irinej. Mr Vučić says somebody in Montenegro is trying to create new church. He points out that Serbia will fight for the rights of its people in a democratic and non-violent way.

“As far as the situation in Montenegro is concerned, we understand the point of view of the Serbian Orthodox Church. We must be more careful, because we don’t want to do what they did to us”, Me Vučić said.

He thinks it is irrational that politicians create churches.

“This is very difficult for Serbian people. The goal is to make Serbian people disappear. This is only the beginning. After this, you will have attempts at Orthodox Church in Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia… We never threaten, but we are always threatened”, Mr Vučić said.

Serbs don’t want to be separated from their homeland, Mr Vučić adds.

“It’s one nation, wherever they live. It is very important for us that Serbia and Montenegro remain close. Serbs want only one – to feel at home in their faith. We are going to do our best, fight for the people’s rights in a democratic and non-violent way”, Mr Vučić pointed out.

Patriarch Irinej said that “the situation Serbs and Serbian churches are in is more difficult than ever”.

“What’s happening now, couldn’t be seen during the Ottoman Empire, not even during communism. The goal is to expel Serbs and destroy Serbian Orthodox Church. I am wondering if Mr Milo Đukanović is aware of the situation he created more or less”, Patriarch says.
