Who will go on holiday in Montenegro: You are never alone in the company of nature

Željka Radak Kukavičić

Montenegro is Europe’s first coronavirus-free destination and one of the most beautiful and most desirable places in the world. The country is going to open its borders to tourists of 26 countries, in line with the decisions of the National Coordination Body, NKT, and as the epidemiological situation is getting better, their number will increase.

In addition, Montenegro is launching a campaign titled ‘In the Company of Nature’.

The fact that Montenegro is the first European coronavirus-free destination has been extremely important, head of the National Tourism Organization, NTO, Ms Željka Radak Kukavičić, says in an interview for CdM.

In these uncertain times when the whole world has been facing the health crisis, according to her, health safety and security represent priorities while choosing a destination for a holiday.

Montenegro opens its borders

Head of the NTO, adds that some of the most renowned European media companies, such as the UK’s Telegraph, Germany’s daily Bild, as well as other Slovak, French, Polish, Ukrainian and Czech media, wrote about Montenegro as a safe tourism destination.

Relaxing after difficult times

“The National Tourism Organization of Montenegro and the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism have launched a new global marketing campaign under the slogan ‘In the Company of Nature’. Having in mind the fact that people want to relax following the Covid-19 crisis and various kinds of fears, we believe that the most important aspect of the tourism season is safety,“ Ms Radak Kukavičić noted.

The summer season, she added, is likely to bring a very different experience this year. Months of isolation led to two opposite consequences: the desire for freedom and peace and increased caution and fear from having contacts.

“Our idea is to connect these two by sending a message that Montenegro is a safe destination of beautiful and untouched nature – a place where one can experience freedom in the company of nature and his/her beloved ones.“

Recovery

On the ways of recovering tourism following the coronavirus outbreak, she said: “Having in mind Montenegro’s good positioning, we’re slightly optimistic and believe that the part of the main tourism season will happen. After receiving approval from our epidemiologists and in line with their recommendations, Montenegro opens its borders as of 1 June for a significant number of countries that represent major sources for us.“

High-quality services

Tourism officials in Montenegro will provide high-quality service for all those going on holiday in our country, by fully implementing protocols and measures prescribed by competent healthcare authorities.

Nature and me

It’s likely that European tourism trends are going to change to some extent, and that’s the reason why Montenegro has been carefully monitoring the situation in major sources and is planning to intensify its marketing activities through a new campaign under the slogan ‘Nature and Me’.

“Apart from major sources that I have already mentioned, we will especially focus on the development of local tourism in the coming period, both through the promotion, more competitive prices and special favorable offers, in order to encourage the citizens of Montenegro to spend vacation in their own country and use the opportunity to get to know it better, or even experience some new segments of the country’s rich and diverse tourism offer.“

Tourist are coming to our country. Again.

Ms Radak Kukavičić has a clear message for the end.

“The Montenegrin tourism industry has been improving its tourism offer for years, primarily with quality and better accommodation capacities, good offer and restaurants. We’ve earned the reputation of a tourism destination with a very good price/quality ratio, and as a result – many tourists are going on holiday in our country,“ she concluded.
