Zakharova: The allegations unfounded, the authorities in Podgorica behind the anti-Russian campaign

Moscow believes that the claims of Russian involvement in Montenegrin affairs are completely unfounded, and that the authorities in Podgorica stand behind anti-Russian media campaign, said Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova.

“Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic could not resist using tools of the US and EU and he accused Moscow of meddling in Montenegrin interior affairs”, Zakharova said during a press conference, Beta reports.

She claims that Special State Prosecutor Milivoje Katnic went even further.

“He developed that thought, mentioning FSB special forces on Montenegrin territory. Completely unfounded statements further propagated by media, regardless of Russian position”, Zakharova said.

Special State Prosecutor Milivoje Katic state on Sunday that some Russian nationals were involved in preparing a state coup in Montenegro in order to put a stop to Montenegrin NATO membership.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov denied Katnic’s allegations on Monday, adding that it was irresponsible to bring up such accusations without evidence to support them.

The last piece of the puzzle – that is how Western intelligence services described evidence on Russian involvement in the election-day events for Sky News.

Sky News published passport photographs of Russian suspect Shishmakov, who is connected to Russian military. Supposedly, he used a fake identity during the organization of the coup.

The older passport states that his name is Shishmakov and that he works in Russian embassy in Poland. He was allegedly fired due to suspicions that he was a spy. He changed his name to Shirokov in August this year, just two months before the attempt of terrorism in our country.

Based on this, Special State Prosecutor Milivoje Katnic believes that Russian state institutions were also involved, because a passport with a fake name cannot be issued without help from the state.
