During the meeting between Takisawa and Djukanovic letters with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe were exchanged on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Mutual satisfaction by improving cooperation and readiness for its further development in the common interest were expressed in the letters.
Djukanovic said that this visit was a gesture of respect of the Government of Japan to Montenegro and its citizens on the occasion of the important jubilee.
“Efforts of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are significant. About €19m development assistance has been implemented through the agency in recent years. We will continue bilateral cooperation, particularly in economy, tourism and education, as well as science and development of new technologies”, he added.
According to Takisawa, the Japanese government appreciates the efforts that Montenegro is making on its path towards the European Union, particularly in the field of strengthening democracy and the market economy.
The two officials also discussed the possibility for a greater number of students, researchers, engineers, doctors, civil servants and other young professionals to further improve their knowledge at the prominent educational and scientific research centres in Japan. Thus the exchange of experiences and transfer of knowledge in various fields of mutual interest would be encouraged.
As announced by the government, the importance of maintaining contacts at a high political level has been pointed out. The issues of cooperation between the two countries on a multilateral level were also discussed.
