First electronic voter identification devices arrived

The Minister added that the delivery of the remaining 900 devices was expected in three stages – in December and January.

At the meeting, the theme of which was the election legislation, the Minister presented the activities that the Ministry took when it comes to the application of the Law on Electoral Register and the Law on Election of Chancellors and Members of Parliament.

He said that a new electoral register was established in February and explained its operation. He added that portal www.biraci.me was launched and it enables insight and track changes in the electoral register to all the political parties which required it. As Konjevic said, they also launched procedures for procurement of equipment for packaging and sending notices/calls which are sent to citizens after the conclusion of the electoral register.

“He also said that obligations of the Interior Ministry arising from the aforementioned legislation were completed by that and reminded that the Ministry was not responsible for conducting elections,” the Ministry stated.

Konjevic pointed to three levels of control electoral register – by the political parties, State Election Commission (DIK) as well as the citizens and expressed hope that there will be higher interest of parties to obtain access to the application of the election registry, as well as a greater number of checks through the portal www.biraci.me by the citizens themselves.

They also discussed the responsibilities of local governments to make decisions on the names of settlements, streets and squares, based on which the municipal election commissions can make a decision on polling stations which will be fully in line with the Law on Electoral Register in order for the Ministry to be able to implement them.

“The participants expect that the municipalities will fulfil their obligations in terms of decision-making by the end of the year,” the Ministry stated.
