Konjevic to return to the Assembly?

After the party announced that they will be voting against confidence in the government of Milo Djukanovic, it is quite clear that they are tracing a new political path, leading themselves into the opposition.

According to findings of Dnevne Novine, Rasko Konjevic (the only remaining SDP minister) will submit a resignation to this position if on January 25th, the Assembly votes against the Government. In this case, Konjevic will take the place of his party colleague, Borislav Banovic, as the new ambassador of Montenegro in London.

This explains why Speaker of the Parliament and SDP leader, Ranko Krivokapic, hasn’t informed the State Electoral Commission (SEC) of Banovic’s resignation. Had he done so, Banovic would be replaced by the next-in-line deputy, Mubera Kurpejović, who left SDP after it split, and joined the newly formed Social Democrats of Montenegro, whose president is Ivan Brajovic.

Kurpejović has asked the SEC to appoint her a MP, but hasn’t received any sort of response so far. This means SDP will have five representatives in the Assembly.

Another question is whether SDP leader and President of the Assembly, Ranko Krivokapic, will resign because the DPS – SDP coalition which appointed him no longer exists.

The stakes are high and results dependent on the vote in favor or against the current government. Majority can be accomplished by votes of Positive Montenegro party, led by Darko Pajović, who recently said the party would work “in favor of the interests of Montenegro”. This could be interpreted in different ways, but it is very possible that the government will receive the support of the Positive party. From that moment, the SDP will become part of Montenegrin opposition.

Opposition is accusing Positive Montenegro of political corruption because of their possible support to the Government. SDP is most vocal, although they previously broke their coalition with Positive party in Podgorica in order to side with the ruling DPS.
