The petition ‘Vakcine odmah’ (‘Vaccines now’) has been launched on the petition.online website, demanding that the Government and the Ministry of Health try to save citizens and accept the donation of vaccines against the coronavirus, offered by the Greek businessman Mr. Petros Stathis.
The authors of the petition, NGO Futura, say that saving one man is heroism, and not preventing one death is a crime.
„Obituary sections in our media are filled every day. Yesterday, six families lost their closest members. The day before, we had seven deaths. In the last month – 125! And just from the coronavirus. The upward trends of the disease spread do not bode well. Just since the day that a great man and a great humanist – Mr. Petros Stathis, offered our country help, on average, 30 percent of tested for the virus have been confirmed positive“, the authors stated in their explanation of the initiative.
In those six days alone, 25 people died, they added.
“Are we that numerous in Montenegro that we can remain silent? Our fellow citizens are dying, our friends are dying, our closest ones are dying. Let’s put ourselves in the shoes of at least one of their family members. We, who have lost someone, would have given everything to try to save them. If only we had tried to do so with the vaccine. And we could have saved 5,000 of them these past days. We can save up to 25,000 of our friends and acquaintances in the coming days. Let’s just say YES! We want the vaccine now! We want the vaccine that is within our reach! Let’s send a clear request to the Ministry of Health and the Government of Montenegro that we want them to try to save us. Let’s not sit and wait for the sad news”, cites the explanation.
NGO Futura invited the citizens to unite.
“Let’s try saving someone. Sign the petition to save at least one person. Sign the petition for the vaccine to arrive in our country. The vaccine is already being used in our neighboring and wealthy countries as well, those that could have procured many other vaccines. Experts, research and its use to date confirm its efficiency “, stated NGO Futura.
Finally, they commented on the price of the vaccine.
“According to the information published in the media, a double dose of this vaccine costs around 144 US dollars. On the other hand, according to The Associated Press, a double dose of the Russian vaccine costs about 20 US dollars. Why then do we turn down a donation of about $ 7,2 million US dollars that can save about 25,000 people? Even if just one life would be saved, it would be worth it. We request accepting the vaccine donation of Mr. Petros Stathis. We ask for the same procedures and documentation to be submitted to the relevant institutions to be the same as those requested for the import of other vaccines for our market. We want the vaccine immediately”, the authors of the petition said.
