In order to further advance on its European path and meet the interim benchmarks for chapter 23 of its accession negotiations, Montenegro needs to make further progress on rule of law reforms, including to advance and not reverse the implementation of the judicial reform, said EU Ambassador to Montenegro, Ms. Oana Cristina Popa today.
Ms. Popa pointed out that Montenegro already has the bodies and mechanisms to ensure judicial and prosecutorial independence and accountability.
“We encourage Montenegro to make consistent use of these mechanisms and build on the work done to further develop results in the fight against corruption and organized crime”, said Ms. Popa on her official Twitter account.
The MPs Slaven Radunović, Dragan Krapović, Branka Bošnjak, Dragan Ivanović and Miloš Konatar, have recently proposed a law that envisages the abolition of the Special State Prosecutor’s Office and the establishment of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Corruption.
