Pursuant to the Law on Administrative Procedure, a person will be allowed to declare on the fact and circumstances relating to the Ministry of the Interior (MUP) being aware that the said person has voluntarily acquired the citizenship of another state, which is a decisive fact for initiating ex officio proceedings for revoking Montenegrin citizenship by force of law. Also, pursuant to the Law on Montenegrin Citizenship, a person is enabled to declare himself/herself by giving a statement on the record which citizenship he/she wants to keep, which means that this person does not automatically lose Montenegrin citizenship, the Ministry of the Interior has announced.
It’s concluded that persons who voluntarily acquired the citizenship of another state before 3 June 2006 have the right to dual citizenship.
