“In line with plans, Montenegro has accepted the obligations arising from membership in accordance with the principle of solidarity, which is valid in NATO. This has also been an opportunity to discuss the reform activities planned during the year, as well as activities related to further implementation of campaigns to raise public support for NATO membership,” Garcevic said.
It was pointed out synergy of the reforms that Montenegro had implemented not only in the context of Euro-Atlantic integration, but also in the context of integration into the EU.
“Thus the negotiations have been formally completed, but the accession process goes on. The next step that is expected is to quickly sign the Accession Protocol, which should happen in the next few months, but until then, Montenegro must complete its reform efforts, activities to strengthen the public support, to continue intensive contacts at different levels of relations with the representatives of NATO,” said Garcevic.
When you sign the accession protocol, the ratification of the protocol follows.
“The ratification may take up to a year, which means that Montenegro will become a full member of NATO by the next year. Until the ratification process is completed, Montenegro plays the role of an observer,” explained Garcevic.
