Failure to pass the budget for 6 months has put the country in a state of serious financial danger. Meanwhile, the borrowing of €750m under unclear circumstances has been used for frequent illegal financing of current spending. Economic processes have been stopped, as has the functioning of the state apparatus. The only worse thing than not passing the budget is the adoption of the budget as proposed by the Government, says the DPS MP Nikola Rakočević in an interview for Dnevne Novine.
Mr Rakočević, an economist by profession, points out that there is no development component in the budget, no capital investments, that the Government makes ill-considered decisions on excise tax increases, and that we are witnessing rising food prices and creating a situation where new borrowing funds will have to be used for the payment of running costs.
When asked to comment on the events related to the election of a new Metropolitan and the signing of the Fundamental Agreement with the Serbian Orthodox Church, Mr Rakočević says that the departure of PM Zdravko Krivokapić by government plane for a private conversation with the Orthodox church leader of another state is another example of the Government’s servility to centres outside Montenegro.
