Ten to Eight – Antifascism crisis

You are reading a daily contextual review of the news that marked the previous weekend.

By Ljubomir Filipović, CdM observer

Many hoped that the political changes last year would only bring about a change of government, that the country’s foreign policy course would not change, that its independence would not be called into question. Some even laughed cynically at the fears and the first protests. Today, some of those who enthusiastically welcomed the changes understand what we have been saying for a couple of years. Some are starting to write texts that look like the ones we wrote. It would be bad if we changed the foreign policy course, or if they started to change the symbols, but the worst of all is that they violate the values based on which this state has been restored.

Through the zealous and patient work of the Serbian Church in Montenegro, but also the politicians who serve it, calls for a revision of history have been heard for years. According to that revision, the Chetniks were the ones who acted correctly during the Second World War, and the partisans were criminals, murderers and atheists. “The communists created the bastard of the Montenegrin nation” – you remember. And then what to expect from a miserable person but to urinate on a monument to a partisan who was shot by the Chetniks themselves. The government was not changed because it was corrupt, the government was changed because it was Montenegrin. The number of those who voted against it because of corruption, crime and nepotism is disproportionately small compared to those who wanted to stop and return the wheel of history. And they are now trying in vain to justify themselves by saying that it is an isolated incident and the like. Because these isolated incidents have been happening for a long time since the processions started.

But something strange and admirable is happening – it seems that the communists have inoculated us well, because the reaction to the latter in a series of acts of desecration of the memory of partisan victims showed that anti-fascism in Montenegro is alive and well, and that it is the idea that gathers us most. Antifascism and the struggle and suffering are those that carved Montenegrin statehood and independence. The communists and Tito did not create the Montenegrin nation, as they want to indoctrinate us – but the Montenegrin partisans liberated it. And Montenegro remembers that. That is why protests were organized in Kotor and Niksic yesterday, and they were announced for today in Cetinje and Podgorica. And that will eventually break this revisionist and shameful government, which yesterday waited late in the afternoon to react and of course accuse the DPS of what happened. URA, like all real Chetniks, saw UDBA as the one that staged the whole story.

The mayor of Niksic Marko Kovacevic, in accordance with his ideological background, relativized the incident, his partners from the local Democrats and URA sent shameless statements in which the former government is to blame for everything. The pro-government media kept silent. It would be nice to live in Montenegro, which they show us – a country where everything went badly with the DPS and where the young and brave Dritan Abazovic leads us in the light of the future, but there are limits and prices to which it is possible to sell fog. It has already begun to overflow.

Illegal appointment of ANB head

Despite warnings from external partners, and despite major mistakes in the work, the Prime Minister decided to propose, and then, without the consent of Parliament and contrary to the law, to appoint Mr Dejan Vuksic as the director of the National Security Agency (ANB). Protesting against the Prime Minister’s absence from the earlier session of the Defense and Security Committee, the Democratic Front decided to boycott the session at which Mr Vuksic would be discussed. The session was not held, but that did not prevent the Prime Minister from reacting on his own.

Protests and double standards

While we are waiting for the dismissal of Minister Vladimir Leposavic, he is still strongly implementing his agenda. This time, he is seeking amnesty for people who broke the law during last year’s gatherings. This is happening while illegally collecting information about the citizens who are protesting this year. Contrary to the law, a database of protest participants is being created, thus violating the privacy and freedoms of citizens.

In the meantime, another protest is being organized against the screening of the film by the propagandist from Serbia, Mr Boris Malagurski, who provoked people in Montenegro last year and filmed it all.

Mass retirement because of Milivoje Katnic

The Democratic Front managed to cheat and push through the amendments to the Labor Law, which prematurely send hundreds of people into retirement, and everything is part of a behind-the-scenes game to replace Special State Prosecutor Milivoje Katnic in a non-transparent and secret and organized manner.

The law has been adopted and is coming into force, and many people will be surprised because they are retired. Imagine that you have planned your life for the next two years, repay the loan installments and the like, and then wake up one day retired – the loan installments are the same and the income is reduced by 30%-40%.

Miscellaneous

At the Congress of the Bosniak Party, a new leadership was elected, headed by Mr Ervin Ibrahimovic.

Last week, Mr Edward Joseph’s article on the Balkans written for the Foreign Policy received a lot of public attention. I have briefly analyzed the text for you.

That’s it for today. Enjoy the rest of the day.
