On this day, that is, on 31 October 1993, the autocephalous Montenegrin Orthodox Church was restored.
The Montenegrin Assembly adopted the proposal of the Committee for the Restoration of Autocephalous CPC and by acclamation elected the Mitron Archimandrite and Vicar Bishop of Edmonton of the American Orthodox Church, His Eminence Antonio Abramovic, as their spiritual leader.
The ceremony marking the autocephalous Montenegrin Orthodox Church and the inauguration of Antonije Abramovic was organised in front of the Castle of King Nikola, in Cetinje.
