Removing the plaque from Morinj

Few of you, younger people, remember, but a great deal of Montenegro’s citizens rushed to “liberate” Dubrovnik from the Croats in 1991, under orders from Belgrade, and using the taken over Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA). Croatia didn’t have an army then and couldn’t defend itself at first, so “ours” went all the way to Ston and besieged Dubrovnik. There they stole things and set fire, and the prisoners were brought to Morinj in the Bay of Kotor, where they were tortured and mistreated. The camp in Morinj was also the subject of court proceedings, and we who were a little older during our studies had the opportunity to see and hear about it all on our national broadcaster, and thus face the crimes committed in our name by generations older than us. Today, I fear that public opinion survey could show a regression of young people’s attitudes towards our recent past, mostly due to the rush of relativization in the media, which is now predominantly conducted from Serbia.

A few weeks ago, the ministers of defense and foreign affairs in technical mandate, who are now being dismissed by the prime minister in technical mandate BTW, in the presence of their Croatian colleagues, erected a memorial plaque in memory of the stain on the Montenegrin face which Morinj represented, as well as the entire operation of the siege and shelling of Dubrovnik. The installation of the plaque itself was not without incident, as some citizens blocked the road in an attempt to prevent the event. It’s no wonder, when we know that the Kotor government, led by Mayor Jokic, canonized some of the actors of the events in Morinj. In addition, the Podgorica leadership of the youth forces of URA is now acting through the Directorate for Inspection Affairs and trying to remove the plaque. This kind of action causes strong reactions from the public, and among the first to react was Vesna Pusic.

Can Dritan dismiss Rasko and Ranko?

He can, because everything is possible in Montenegro. Because with countless rapes of the Constitution by the former and current government, the highest legal act of the state has been reduced to wiping feet on it every time the majority in the Parliament decides to do so. DPS will try to challenge it and dissolve the Parliament, but if the parliamentary majority is consolidated, I am afraid that the citizens together with the opposition parties will be reduced to the role of observers.

How is the campaign for the local elections going?

People have to learn that everything is a campaign now. Both Dritan’s threats with Spuz, and the stories about Bemax and the company starting with an A and the company starting with a P – all those are marketing tricks. But all those marketing tricks leave their mark. Trump-style “Lock her up” tricks only raise tensions and cause incalculable damage to society in the long run. It is not up to Dritan to make arrests, nor is it up to the Prosecutor’s Office to listen to him.

In addition, in the campaign, URA makes fun of people with developmental disabilities, which is why the 21 May Civic Initiative reacted.

While Dritan threatens to expand the prison’s capacity, Vukovic is smartly gathering international support. In addition to big names from fields of regional sports, culture and art, support from the mayors of Rijeka and Ljubljana as well as the support from the mayor of Berlin has now arrived.

Another interesting phenomenon is the appearance of a challenger to the Front’s representation of extreme Serbian nationalist ideas – the St. Sava Serbian Party, which is seen as a threat and denounced as an “Udba project”. It goes to the extent that its appearances on TV are forbidden in accordance with the law. That is why this party complained about television and media group Adria, owned by people close to Aleksandar Vucic.

That’s it for today. Enjoy the rest of the day.

Kind regards,
