Director of the MONSTAT Statistical Office, Miroslav Pejovic, said that the census of population, households and apartments would begin on 30 November. A total of 3,300 enumerators will go out into the field. All the necessary conditions for holding the census have been provided, he added and called on the citizens to open the doors to the enumerators.

“In the census, we are all important and the participation of every citizen is important in order to obtain accurate and high-quality data. Therefore, we invite citizens to open the doors to enumerators and contribute to the successful implementation of the census with their participation, in the interest of the development of Montenegro”, announced Pejovic at the press conference.

According to him, in the previous period, there were campaigns about the census aimed at spreading misinformation, both from political parties and other actors in society, which contributed to its postponement.

“We call for refraining from statements that do not contribute to calming tensions, but on the contrary – create confusion and possible mistrust among citizens. I am sorry if there is a boycott because you all saw that all the conditions have been met. The specification for the software has been completed”, said Pejovic.

Earlier today, acting DPS leader Danijel Zivkovic announced at the press conference that not all conditions from the Census Agreement had been met.

The assistant director of MONSTAT, Snezana Remikovic, said that the accuracy of the data would depend on the non-response of citizens.

Answering the question whether citizens from Montenegro on temporary or permanent work abroad are included in the census, Remikovic said that everyone residing in Montenegro is included in the statistics.
