A few tens of seconds separated the Slovaks from a miracle – a place in the quarter-finals over the mighty England.
With Ivan Sranac’s goal, his third in the tournament, Slovakia had the lead until stoppage time, but it did not last.
“This is my third goal in the tournament, so what? It could have been nicer, but we lost at the last moment. We have nothing to be angry about, we will have to deal with it. Maybe we will regret this for the rest of our lives… It is possible that we won’t get another chance to write history”, said Ivan Sranac, the 30-year-old forward of Slavia from Prague.
England will face Switzerland in the quarter-finals next Saturday at 6 p.m.
