Croatia is not conducting nor has it ever conducted any proceedings against Milivoje Katnic for the criminal offense of war crimes against the civilian population or for any other criminal offense, the defense attorney of the former chief special prosecutor, lawyer Marjan Markovic, has stated.
He has reacted, as he says, to the untrue statement of the Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro, Aleksa Becic, in which he stated in the Parliament of Montenegro on Saturday “that the Republic of Croatia is ‘accusing’ my client of a war crime committed on the territory of Croatia”, which should mean that appropriate criminal proceedings are conducted in Croatia against Katnic.
According to Markovic, the fact that the state of Croatia is not conducting any proceedings against Katnic for the criminal offense, that the state of Montenegro initiated such proceedings 32 years after the allegedly committed crime, and that such a statement was made by the Deputy Prime Minister, during a parliamentary session, indicates only one thing – that it is a typical political process and the political persecution of Milivoje Katnic.
