Last year, Montenegro’s Ministry of Interior (MUP) purchased two luxury BMW interceptor vehicles for €179,800, intending to boost traffic safety and police presence on key roads. However, one of the vehicles has been out of service since shortly after its debut and now requires extensive repairs costing up to €30,000.

A public tender was announced on 11 April 2025 for the repairs, which involve major damage to critical components including the front and rear doors, lighting systems, airbags, sensors, wheels, engine parts, and interior elements. The extent of the damage suggests a serious incident, though no official explanation has been provided.

The interceptors, introduced in September for highway patrol, were promoted as high-tech tools to curb speeding and reckless driving. Just weeks later, one was already damaged, and another incident followed in October. The lack of transparency around the damages and the high repair costs have raised questions about the effectiveness and sustainability of such investments.
