Women working in the government and the entire state administration did not receive any 8 March present this year, unlike many previous. The International Women’s Day has not been celebrated in that way due to austerity measures the Ministry of Finance told Pobjeda.
“In line with the government’s austerity measures and rationalisation of public spending, it was decided that this year no funds would be allocated for International Women’s Day presents,” the ministry explained.
However, the ministry was not able to say how much money had been saved in this way.
“It is not possible to specify how much will be saved on this basis, given the fact that we have no data on how much money the head of state bodies planned to allocate for presents, or whether such an intention existed at all,” the ministry said.
In previous years, women working in the public administration were usually treated to €50 or €100.
